What changed
Golf courses are one of the worst places to depend on a mobile connection, and until now SwingTribe depended on one for the thing you do most: entering a score.
Your scores are kept, not lost. Enter a hole out of signal and it stays on your phone, marked with a small amber dot so you can tell at a glance what has been sent and what has not. When you get a bar back it syncs on its own. Force-quitting the app, or putting it away until the 19th, does not lose anything.
A count you can trust, and a plain answer at the end. A slim band sits on top of the hole navigator at the bottom of the screen, counting what is still on the phone: "3 scores saved on this phone, waiting to send." It stays up until they have actually reached the server, because being back online and being saved are not the same moment. When the last one lands it says so, "All scores saved to the leaderboard", and then goes. That answers the question you were actually asking, rather than leaving you guessing. If the server ever refuses a score outright, the band names the hole to re-enter rather than quietly dropping it, and waits for you to dismiss it.
The band is deliberately small and out of the way. It shares the hole navigator's surface and its rounded top edge, so it reads as part of the bar you are already looking at rather than as an alert over your card, and it takes no space away from the scores themselves.
And when something else goes wrong, it says so. "Check your connection" is only useful when the connection is the problem. It used to be the answer to almost anything that stopped a round opening, including bugs on our side, so people went looking at their bars on a full signal. It now says that only when you really are offline, and says something true the rest of the time.
Scoring opens without a connection. Losing signal on the leaderboard used to stop you getting into the scoring screen at all: the app would say it could not load your round and ask you to check your connection, which is no help standing on a fairway. Now, as long as you have opened the round once while in signal, your group, your holes and your card are on the phone and scoring opens straight from them.
Your whole group's card is safer too. Scores you entered but that have not yet reached the server no longer disappear from the card when the app refreshes itself mid-round.
One thing worth knowing: the very first time you open a round still needs a connection, because there is nothing saved on your phone yet. Open the round once before you tee off and the rest of the round is covered.
